Beidou satellite positioning service will achieve full coverage of real-time centimeter-level services this year.

With the successful launch of the fifth and sixth navigation satellites for the Beidou III system, China's Beidou satellite navigation network has entered a phase of rapid global expansion. As more Beidou satellites orbit the Earth, the question of how people on the ground can effectively utilize them has become a major topic of interest. The level of precision required and the ways in which it can be applied are now at the forefront of public and industry discussions. In a recent interview, reporters learned that the first phase of the construction of China’s Beidou ground-based augmentation system—known as “National One Network”—has officially passed its acceptance test. This system now offers sub-meter accurate positioning services across the country and provides real-time centimeter-level positioning in 21 provinces. Over 100 million users have already registered on the Beidou Chihiro location service platform, while the A-Beidou accelerated positioning service now covers more than 200 countries and regions worldwide. According to the company’s CEO, Chen Jinpei, traditional satellite navigation systems typically have an error margin of 5 to 10 meters, which is no longer sufficient for modern life and industrial needs. By offering high-precision positioning services, the system aims to bring greater value to society and support China’s “curve overtaking” strategy in the global navigation market. In the era of the Internet of Everything, precise positioning—down to sub-meter or even centimeter levels—is essential for the operation of various IoT devices. To achieve this, the construction of the Beidou ground-based augmentation system plays a crucial role. As industry experts explain, errors from factors like satellite orbit and clock deviations are difficult to eliminate with traditional systems. By setting up ground stations, the system collects differential data and broadcasts it widely, enabling terminals to achieve highly accurate positioning. On May 18, 2016, the National Beidou Ground Augmentation System was officially launched, marking the start of nationwide high-precision location services. Today, the system has established over 2,000 ground stations across the country, providing accurate positioning and extended services to users through big data operations. Chen Jinpei recently revealed that this year, the national Beidou ground-based augmentation system will achieve full coverage of real-time centimeter-level positioning services throughout mainland China. Once fully operational, Beidou’s high-precision positioning service is expected to become a public utility accessible to all. With this technology, smart cities, autonomous driving, and smart logistics will see large-scale commercial applications. In the next three years, more mobile phones, bicycles, and wearable devices will integrate Beidou’s high-precision services, enhancing urban management and improving daily life for millions.
