Noel Hurley, General Manager of ARM Processors, said: “With the addition of the Cortex-M7 to the ARM Cortex-M family, ARM and our partners are delivering the most scalable and software-compatible solution for the connected world. With the variety of Cortex-M7 features and enhanced memory capabilities, developers can design more powerful, intelligent, and reliable microcontrollers for a wide range of embedded applications.”

The Cortex-M7 delivers high performance and improved digital signal processing efficiency, providing superior embedded intelligence for industrial applications, infrastructure, and home products. According to performance test results, it achieves up to 5 CoreMark/MHz, making it ideal for performance-critical embedded applications while keeping R&D costs low.

The Cortex-M7 will be used in various applications such as motor control systems, industrial automation, advanced voice recognition, image processing, connected vehicle solutions, and IoT-related systems. It can process audio, image data, and speech recognition faster, allowing users to experience the benefits immediately.

Like previous Cortex-M series processors, the Cortex-M7 supports C language programming and is binary compatible with existing Cortex-M products. With a complete ecosystem and software compatibility, migrating from older Cortex-M cores to the Cortex-M7 is straightforward. This allows system designers to reuse existing code, reducing development and maintenance costs.

In 2013, ARM partners shipped over 3 billion ARM-based microcontrollers, solidifying ARM’s position as the industry leader in the microcontroller market.

Key Features of the ARM Cortex-M7:

  • 6-stage superscalar pipeline with a performance of 2,000 CoreMarks at 40LP process and 400MHz.
  • Supports 64-bit AXI interconnects with optional instruction and data cache for efficient access to large external memory and high-performance peripherals.
  • Tightly coupled memory interface for fast, real-time response.
  • Wide range of configurable options to meet different cost and performance requirements.
  • Embedded Trace Macrocell (ETM) for full command and data tracing, improving system visibility.
  • Optional quan kit and built-in error detection to meet ASIL D and SIL 3 standards for automotive safety, making it suitable for automotive, industrial, transportation, and medical applications.
  • Extensive third-party tools, real-time operating systems (RTOS), and middleware support from the ARM Connected Community.

The Cortex-M7 represents a major step forward in embedded computing, offering developers a powerful, flexible, and future-proof platform for next-generation applications.
