Cable fault detection equipment

Most of the faults in power cables are caused by damage to the insulation, which can lead to low-resistance short circuits, high-resistance leakage, or high-resistance network faults. Among these, the latter two types are more complex and require advanced detection techniques. As a result, the instruments used for such tasks must be highly technical, capable of accurately locating fault points in various environments. These devices are typically compact, portable, and designed for easy handling. They can usually detect faults within a 15 km range with an accuracy of about 1 meter. The price varies depending on the technology and functionality of the instrument. First, the ST-200 intelligent power cable fault detector (ST-300) is a comprehensive tool that consists of three main components: an intelligent cable fault flash meter, a fixed-point meter, and a path meter. It can measure up to 15 km with a rough measurement accuracy of ±2% and a fine measurement accuracy of ±0.2 meters. The device features fast testing capabilities, with a minimum measurable distance of ≤2V/f meters. It uses computer and digital signal processing technology to automatically identify fault characteristics, display the location of the fault, and store 12 different waveform patterns. The instrument also supports printing and comparison of field test waveforms, making it user-friendly with a Chinese character panel that requires no menu prompts. Second, the HT-TC002A intelligent cable fault detector is suitable for detecting open circuits, low-resistance faults, and high-resistance flash or leakage faults in power cables below 35kV. It has a maximum measuring distance of 15 kilometers and a system error of less than ±0.5 meters. It includes a large-screen dot matrix LCD display, built-in printer, and large storage capacity. The device can deliver high voltage output with a peak value of 100W and 250Vp-p. Like the ST-200, it is composed of a flash meter, a pointing device, and a path meter. Third, the WY51311 telephone cable detector is designed to identify open circuits, short circuits, mixed lines, and poor contact issues in local telephone cables, high-frequency communication cables, coaxial cables, and metal overhead cables. It can test up to 10 km for local telephone cables, 15 km for high-frequency communication cables, and 10 km for coaxial cables. It has a blind zone of 1 meter and a resolution of 1 meter, making it ideal for precise fault identification. Other models include the JH5130 portable cable fault tester (20M–10KM), the JH5132 automatic cable fault tester (10M–20KM), the T903 power cable fault range finder with a printer, the T-C02 smart meter for local telephone cables (8KM–16KM), and several laser rangefinders like the Pro4, Lite 5, Class5, Pro4/4a, Pro500, and Pro1000. These tools offer varying ranges and precision levels, from 100m to 1000m, with some featuring communication interfaces. Additionally, the CHM6000 cable height tester can measure the height of six cables simultaneously, while the 2000E cable height tester measures vertical distances and cable size (φ25mm) with a range of 3–25mm. Lastly, the 10-1907 handheld laser speedometer is a useful tool for traffic speed measurement, capable of measuring vehicle speeds up to 1300 feet with a range of 6–200MPH.
