Philips Releases ESSENTIALLINE Series LED Road Lighting Solutions

• Philips' new LED road lighting solution combines energy efficiency and reliability

• Philips LEDGINE technology delivers a superior visual experience for a variety of road environments

Philips launched the EssentialLine line of LED road lighting solutions at the 2010 World Cities Summit (WCS) in Singapore. EssentialLine is Philips' new line of LED road lighting products designed to help urban planners adopt more efficient and environmentally friendly road lighting systems to improve the city's livability.

Today, urban life consumes 70% of the world's energy, and 15% of it consumes road lighting. In Asia, rapid economic growth and energy consumption have brought a new set of environmental issues to urban construction planners. According to a United Nations study, in 2008, 45% of the population in Southeast Asian countries lived in urban areas. By 2030, this proportion is expected to reach 56.5%, which will put a heavier load on infrastructure including outdoor lighting. The Philips EssentialLine LED road lighting range is an ideal green lighting solution that helps cities create better environments while improving the city's livability at a lower cost.

Compared to existing standard SON lighting solutions, the Philips EssentialLine LED road lighting series can save up to 50% energy. With LEDGINE technology, Philips EssentialLine LED road lighting products deliver continuous high color rendering with luminous efficacy up to 85 lm/W. The modular design of the LED series makes it easy to upgrade in the field and better manage heat.

Economic development needs the support of sustainable urban development. Bibai, senior vice president of Philips and general manager of lighting in Asia Pacific, pointed out: “With the transformation of Asian cities into a global city, government departments and urban planners need to take various measures to improve urban livability. Sexuality, this is crucial. The use of energy-efficient LED lighting systems on public infrastructure can better enhance the sense of urban security, beautify the city by sketching the iconic city skyline and landscape, and effectively reduce the energy of the city center. Consumption and carbon emissions are three things."

The Philips EssentialLine LED road lighting range is available in four lighting modes and three wattages to accommodate different widths and provide a safe and comfortable viewing experience in a variety of road applications. With a lifespan of up to 50,000 hours, this series saves on the high cost of replacing lighting equipment.

Mr. Bishop also said: “The Philips EssentialLine road lighting series is Philips' latest product for urban sustainable development. The efficient and reliable EssentialLine road lighting series not only reduces energy consumption and lighting maintenance costs, but also saves the municipality a large sum of money. At the same time, it can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment without lowering safety standards. Philips is very pleased to introduce the latest LED lighting solutions at an international conference such as the 'World Cities Summit 2010', and will work with Industry players from Asia work together to promote the city's transition to energy-efficient lighting solutions."

The 2010 World Cities Summit provides Philips with a strategic platform to showcase its latest urban road lighting product, the EssentialLine line of LED road lighting solutions. In addition, Philips will showcase its existing road lighting products at this summit – ClearLine LED road lighting products that highlight the urban road beautification function and ColorReachTM Powercore, a diversified urban lighting innovation.

The ClearLine LED Road Lighting Series is an innovative road lighting solution that uses state-of-the-art LED technology and professional optics to achieve energy efficiency and minimal glare, with up to 22% energy savings and up to 50,000 hours of life. Development provides a proven solution. This series of products, in conjunction with the use of road dimming systems, does not affect road safety during the non-traffic peak traffic period, and can save an additional 50% of energy consumption.

ColorReachTM Powercore is the flagship product of Philips LED Lighting, a high-performance architectural lighting solution and the first LED lighting product to meet the needs of multi-color large-scale facade lighting. With a high lumen output and a light projection distance of more than 150 meters, this powerful road lighting product is a model for the next generation of outdoor lighting.

The 2010 World Cities Summit was held in Singapore for a three-day period with a central theme of “livable and sustainable future cities”. The summit brings together internationally renowned leaders and industry experts to discuss solutions to the increasingly pressing urban problems of today's cities. As a global leader in the lighting industry, Philips is proud to be the main sponsor of the 2010 World City Summit.
