GCT Semiconductor Acquires CEVA Low Energy Bluetooth IP Licensing for Next Generation IoT Devices

CEVA, a leading provider of signal processing IP for smart and connected devices (NASDAQ: CEVA), has announced that GCT Semiconductor, a top designer and supplier of 4G mobile semiconductor solutions, has acquired the CEVA RivieraWaves Low Energy Bluetooth (BLE) IP license. This license will be used in GCT’s new IoT solution, the GDM7243iLTE single-chip device. The GDM7243i combines ultra-low power Bluetooth with GCT’s advanced LTE-M and NB-IoT technologies into one highly integrated chip, making it ideal for next-gen IoT applications such as tracking, wearables, security, agriculture, healthcare, industrial, and consumer devices. John Schlaefer, CEO of GCT Semiconductor, stated, “The IoT market is growing rapidly, and the demand for highly integrated silicon solutions is stronger than ever. The GDM7243i, powered by CEVA’s RivieraWaves Bluetooth IP, offers ultra-low power connectivity with minimal processor load. This makes it an excellent fit for our vision of next-generation IoT devices.” [Image: GCT Semiconductor Acquires CEVA Low Energy Bluetooth IP Licensing for Next Generation IoT Devices] Aviv Malinovitch, Vice President and General Manager of CEVA’s Connectivity Business Unit, added, “We are excited to see GCT adopting our Bluetooth IP in their innovative GDM7243i chip. It brings together key IoT technologies in a single IC, which will definitely help drive the growth of the IoT ecosystem.” CEVA’s RivieraWaves Bluetooth IP platform delivers a complete solution for low-power Bluetooth and dual-mode connectivity. It includes a hardware baseband controller and a rich software protocol stack, along with a flexible wireless interface that can integrate with RF or RF IP from various partners. This allows for optimal performance across different foundries and process nodes. The platform supports all Bluetooth 5 features, including LE 2Mbps data rate, long range, and LE advertising extensions. It also supports RISC-V based integration. To date, more than 1.5 billion devices using RivieraWaves Bluetooth IP have been shipped, and it is widely adopted by leading semiconductor and OEM vendors around the world, including in smartphones, tablets, speakers, earphones, earbuds, and wearable devices.
