Philips passes the “Fifth Ecological Vision”

Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands announced today that Philips has made significant progress in achieving its “fourth ecological vision”. The “Four Ecological Vision” was launched in 2007, setting the target for Philips' green product sales, green innovation investment and energy efficiency in operations by the end of 2012. In 2009, Philips' sales of green products reached 31%, and the expected target was achieved three years ahead of schedule. It is expected that by 2015, this proportion will reach 50%. In addition, in 2010, Philips' total investment in green innovation will reach the expected goal of 1 billion euros, and will also achieve the promise of 25% increase in energy efficiency in operation.

Through the “Fifth Ecological Vision”, Philips today announced its 2015 Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to provide meaningful solutions based on the trends in today's world. These new goals broaden the scope of Philips' sustainable development, from the ecological footprint to the overall strategy of the company's “healthy comfort, quality of life”.

By 2015, Philips will increase the energy efficiency of its overall products by 50%. The energy consumption of lighting currently accounts for 19% of the world's total energy consumption, close to one-fifth. As LED technology will soon become the industry standard, Philips will rely on its insight and strength in this field to respond to the energy crisis in an unprecedented way through lighting innovation. Here's an example: Philips launched the first solar LED floodlighting solution to date in South Africa. Philips seeks to enable people to simply improve their quality of life through the use of lighting, without the limitations of daylight, and without the need for an electrical infrastructure.

By 2015, Philips will also double the recycling and recycling of used products and significantly increase the use of recycled materials in products. The lack of raw material resources, the lack of recycling and recycling legislation in some parts of the world, and the surge in consumer demand in emerging economies have created a serious ecological crisis for the planet.
