Philips plans to close the Canadian lighting factory LED production transfer to North America

According to reports, Philips plans to close a lighting manufacturer, Philips Canlyte, in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada. The plant was put into production in 1987 and was originally owned by the Canlyte brand of the Canadian lighting manufacturer Genlyte Group. In 2008, after Philips acquired the Genlyte Group, the plant was renamed Philips Canlyte.

It is understood that the Philips Canlyte factory will be officially closed in March 2015. Prior to this, the factory will gradually stop producing incandescent lamps and transfer the production of LED lamps to other North American factories.

Philips expects to have 190 employees affected by the withdrawal. Philips spokesperson Santina Giuliano said the company is currently informing employees about the compensation agreement.

Philips said that as more and more companies and industries are involved in the production of LED lamps, changes in market demand are the reason for this withdrawal.
