The first self-developed OLED production line in China is expected to be completed and put into production in Dongguan at the end of the year. By then, the daily output will reach 1.5 million pieces. Zhao Weiming, deputy dean of the Organic Light Display Industry Technology Research Institute of Dongguan, revealed at the forum on "Organic Luminescence Display (OLED) Technology and Its Application Development" held by the Science and Technology Museum. According to Dr. Zhang Xiaohong, a researcher and doctoral supervisor at the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the OLED industry is growing at an alarming rate. It is estimated that OLED shipments in 2012 will reach three times that of 2007 - a total of -227 million.
Zhao Weiming said that at present Dongguan will be equipped with a production line with a daily output of about 1.5 million Oled wafers. Once it is formed, it will drive semiconductor, optoelectronics, display panels and other related industries to form an industrial chain. The completion of this production line will enable localization of key OLED materials and devices.
