German Semiconductor 09 will drop 23% to a record high

According to the EETimes website, experts from the German Industry Alliance ZEVI pointed out that the worst period of the semiconductor industry is coming, at least in Germany. They expect the industry to drop 23% in 2009, the worst in history.

ZVEI has gathered 1,600 member companies in the German electronics industry, and they predict that the German semiconductor market will shrink by 23% to 7 billion euros (about 9 billion US dollars). Ulrich Schaefer, a ZVEI semiconductor market expert, said that discrete devices, optoelectronics and sensors will all be reduced by 16%, while the IC market will be reduced by 24%.

The degree of decline in the semiconductor market will hit a record high. Schaefer said. However, the alliance's data came from last December, and the current situation is much worse than it was at the time.
