Acer invests in the IMAX VR entertainment industry, and Shanghai will become a pilot

Recently, computer hardware and electronics manufacturer Acer invested $10 million in IMAX VR funds to support the development of high-quality, immersive VR content based on a location-based VR experience. The investment is a further continuation of Acer's partnership with Starbreeze, which developed a cinema-grade VR experience for the company's StarVR helmet.

Acer CEO Jason Chen said in a statement: "I am very pleased to work with IMAX and other global-level investors to promote the development of top content in the VR industry. Through this strategic investment and hardware and entertainment with companies such as Starbreeze. Deep cooperation, we hope to provide immersive VR experience for viewers in places like IMAX VR Center."

At present, many companies are gaining a foothold in the VR industry through helmet products and software products that complement consumer-grade VR hardware, while Acer is focusing on further directions and plans to build advanced VR hardware for a targeted entertainment experience. Currently, Acer has positioned itself as one of the leaders in the media and entertainment industry, investing in IMAX funds and driving the VR experience to a higher level.

Leveraging its partnership with Starbreeze, Acer has deployed StarVR head-mounted devices for IMAX developers. Acer hopes to combine StarVR's technology with the IMAX VR Center's equipment. The IMAX VR Center is located in Los Angeles and is scheduled to open at the end of this year. IMAX said it will offer a new VR head-mounted display with its industry-leading ultra-high resolution and a wider field of view to enhance the consumer's viewing experience. A similar IMAX VR pilot center will soon be launched in London, Shanghai and New York.
