Recently, Red Hat, an open source solution provider, announced the full release of Ansible 2.2, the latest version of a simple, powerful and agentless leading open source IT automation framework software. Ansible 2.2 offers enhanced performance, more comprehensive container and Windows automation capabilities, and several new modules, including modules for networking, cloud provider platforms, and more fully support Vault.
The upstream Ansible project is one of the most common open source automation projects on GitHub, with an active and highly engaged community. A large number of companies, including the Fortune 100, use Ansible Automation to support large, complex private cloud environments. Ansible enables developers and IT operations teams to deploy IT applications and environments more easily and quickly, eliminating barriers between IT teams by automating routine activities such as network configuration, cloud deployment, and development environment creation.

The new docker_network feature helps users manage the Docker machine environment while automating the network layer. Combined with the ansible-container project, users can now control more aspects of container development and deployment pipelines, including how containers communicate over the network.
The internet
As users see network automation as a priority, Ansible's network modules continue to grow. Since the release of Ansible 2.1 in May 2016, the number of network platforms supported by Ansible has increased from 10 to 20, and the total number of network modules has more than doubled. These network modules now constitute more than 20% of the modules supported in Ansible, including multiple modules contributed by the Ansible community and network partners.

Ansible 2.2 provides performance enhancements for cloud services, including the Microsoft Azure platform and VMware cloud infrastructure. The product adds new features for cloud providers, including: Amazon Web Services (AWS), GoogleCloud Platform, and OpenStack providers. Moreover, the product adds new capabilities for VMware and Amazon Web Services. Ansible 2.2 provides a new VMware virtual machine management module and supports new AWS capabilities, including Amazon Elastic File System (EFS), Amazon Redshift, and AWS Lambda.
The Ansible 2.2 release also includes other enhancements. Ansible Roles has been updated as an independent, portable and reusable Ansible Playbook format, giving users greater flexibility. The Ansible future development roadmap has been launched in the Ansible community GitHub project and is now open for public comment.
