Wearable devices boost AMOLED panel shipments

The active matrix organic light emitting display (AMO LED ) panel market will grow at a high speed. As smart watches, health monitoring and other wearable applications become more popular, shipments of wearable device display panels have increased dramatically, with an estimated increase from 34 million in 2015 to 3,000 in 2016. Nine million pieces. Among them, AMO led panels account for up to 60% of the mainstream technology, including Apple, Samsung, LG and Microsoft have been adopted in their smart watch products.

Jerry Kang, principal analyst at IHS, said that smart watch manufacturers are increasingly favoring AMOLED panels because AMOLEDs are lighter, thinner and more full-bodied, and consume less power than other displays. Due to the flexible design of the AMO led display panel, the frame can be narrowed or even folded directly. This growth trend will continue until 2016.

Xie Qinyi, senior research director of IHS Display, further pointed out that compared with liquid crystal displays, AMOLED display panels have the advantages of specifications, and the electro-luminescence materials used in them can be produced through soluble printing processes, meaning AMOLED. The manufacturing cost of the panel also has a significant downside.

At present, Apple, Samsung, LG, and Microsoft's smart watches have adopted AMOLED display panels. With the support of these widely adopted leading manufacturers, the shipment of AMOLED display panels for smart watches is expected to increase from 23 million in 2016 to 80 million in 2024.

According to the IHS wearable display market and technical report, smart watches will continue to lead the growth of the wearable display panel market in the next few years. The annual compound growth rate of wearable device panel shipments is estimated to be 22% from 2015 to 2024. The volume can reach 110 million pieces.

On the other hand, AMOLED display panels are also expected to enter the market for applications such as tablets and notebooks. IHS expects to see 8-inch, 9.7-inch and 12-inch AMOLED display panels in 2016. Many computer brands plan to use AMOLED technology on notebook computers and 2-in-1 devices in 2016. As a result, shipments of mobile computer AMOLED display panels are expected to grow 63% in 2016, reaching 8.6 million.
