ABB builds longest underground cable system in the world

Zurich, Switzerland, February 1, 2012 - ABB, a global top 500 company, recently received an order for a 160 million U.S. underground cable project from Svenska Kraftnät, a Swedish national grid operator, to be responsible for the transmission of electricity to southern Sweden and the western part of Sweden that was built in southern Sweden. Lines provide underground high voltage cable systems. The entire project will be completed in 2014 and will become the world's longest cable system with the largest transmission capacity.

The construction of the new transmission line is mainly to improve the transmission capacity and reliability of the Swedish National Grid, and help to improve the transmission capacity between southern Sweden and Sweden and Norway. In the future, this line will also support the smooth integration of large amounts of wind power into the Swedish grid.

The underground HVDC cable system provided by ABB will connect the area of ​​Barkaryd and Hurva in southern Sweden, spanning approximately 200 kilometers, with a voltage class of 300 kilovolts and a transmission capacity of 2X660 megawatts. ABB will be responsible for the design, engineering, production, delivery and installation of the complete cable system including terminals, nodes and other accessories.
