On April 29th, the “Consultation and Discussion Meeting on Domestic and Foreign Countermeasures for Mercury Pollution†organized by the Ministry of Environmental Protection.
At the meeting, the relevant responsible comrades of the Ministry of Environmental Protection first reported the situation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNDP) on mercury pollution conferences since 2001, and pointed out that the mercury pollution problem has received increasing attention from the international community. China is the world's largest emitter of mercury, and China's mercury use accounts for about half of the world's total. Therefore, how to reduce the amount of mercury used in China and reduce mercury pollution is a major environmental problem we face. The meeting called on all relevant mercury industry to work actively and make unremitting efforts to reduce mercury pollution.
Relevant industry associations attending the conference included: China Chlor-Alkali Industry Association, China Instrument and Meter Association, China Battery Industry Association, China Lighting Association, China Medical Device Association, etc., and the comrades of the Department of Resource Conservation and Environmental Protection of the National Development and Reform Commission also attended the meeting. . At the meeting, comrades of relevant industry associations reported on the work carried out by the industry on mercury pollution prevention and control. At the same time, it is hoped that the Ministry of Environmental Protection will take the lead in intensifying work and gradually lead to the prevention and control of mercury pollution in China.
