Howe Technology and Spreadtrum Communications have jointly introduced the industry's first active stereo 3D camera reference design, offering a turnkey solution for smartphones. This innovative system is designed to be compact and energy-efficient, making it ideal for integration into next-generation mobile devices. With this solution, manufacturers can easily implement advanced 3D imaging capabilities such as 3D modeling, depth sensing, and facial authentication during the development phase.
"Developing 3D imaging technology from scratch is a complex and expensive process," said Ms. Sylvia Zhang, Marketing Director at Howe Mobile. "The active stereo 3D camera turnkey solution aims to reduce time-to-market and lower the initial investment required. Cost and efficiency are key considerations when incorporating these features into smartphone designs."
She added, "This launch marks another milestone in the strong partnership between Howe and Spreadtrum. It reflects our commitment to addressing customer challenges through innovative and practical solutions."
Mr. Mao Yalei, AVP of Spreadtrum’s Camera System Design Department, emphasized, "We’ve combined high-performance hardware and software into a simple yet powerful solution. This ensures that users can fully leverage the benefits of the reference design with minimal setup or customization."
The solution leverages Howe’s ultra-compact spherical shutter sensors, the OV9282 and OV7251, paired with Spreadtrum’s SC9853 chip platform. This combination delivers a highly efficient, high-performance active stereo 3D camera system that meets the evolving demands of smartphone manufacturers. The SC9853 platform features Intel’s 14nm Airmont 8-core processor running at 1.8GHz, providing robust multimedia performance and support for advanced imaging applications.
