In the production process, the TA slurry is fed into the pressure centrifuge through the bottom feed tube. As the drum rotates at around 2000 rpm, the centrifugal force causes solid particles to accumulate on the inner wall. The screw conveyor then pushes the solids downward, mixing them with re-slurry water before entering the re-pulping tank. The liquid overflows from the top and flows into the mother liquor tank by gravity, achieving solid-liquid separation.
To prevent clogging of the feed tube, a continuous desalinated rinse-tube flush is provided. The PTA device utilizes the solubility difference between TA and PT acid to purify the product. However, the temperature in the pressure centrifuge can cause PT acid to precipitate in the mother liquor, affecting product quality and the stable operation of the centrifuge.
There are three main reasons for poor separation performance in the pressure centrifuge. First, the low temperature of the tube rinse water leads to the crystallization of excess PT acid, which gets mixed with TA in the filter cake. Second, the lack of proper insulation in the mother liquor system causes blockages due to PT acid precipitation. Third, fluctuations in the temperature of the flushing water result in inefficient washing, leading to increased alkaline washing frequency and equipment corrosion.
To address these issues, an improvement plan was implemented. This included separating the tube rinse water, rinse water, and re-slurry to increase the temperature of the rinse water. By raising the operating temperature above 140°C, the solubility of PT acid improved, allowing most of it to be separated with the mother liquor. Additionally, better insulation of the mother liquor system was introduced to prevent PT acid precipitation.
After the implementation of the improvements, the product qualification rate reached 100%, the premium product rate increased from 95% to 98%, and the frequency of alkaline washing was reduced to once a month. Moreover, the consumption of desalinated water per ton of PTA production was reduced by 0.35 tons, significantly improving efficiency and reducing operational costs.
