With 4K hardware now widely available across the country, the lack of corresponding software resources has become a major challenge. In response, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television recently released official guidelines, designating Guangdong Province as a pilot zone for promoting 4K ultra-high-definition television and supporting related industrial development.
Guangdong Opens China's First 4K Experimental Channel
Guangdong’s selection as the 4K test area is well-founded. The province already has a strong foundation for the development of ultra-high-definition television. Major companies such as Skyworth, Konka, TCL, China Star Optoelectronics, and Huawei have established a complete industrial chain covering chips, panels, and finished products, making implementation more efficient and effective.
Currently, the Guangdong Broadcasting System has laid the groundwork for large-scale 4K ultra-HD TV services and has achieved early success. As of June 30 this year, the number of 4K TV users in Guangdong reached nearly 5.642 million. The province offers 1,362 hours of 4K programming, accessible through cable TV, an IPTV 4K test channel, and a dedicated 4K on-demand section.
Looking ahead, this cooperative model for 4K resources will be expanded nationwide. Soon, owning a 4K TV won’t be a waste — the 4K era is truly here.
