Cool! "Rainbow Tunnel" LED lights can be lit without electricity

On September 15th, the self-illuminating project of Tunnel No. 1 on the 205 Provincial Highway in Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province, was officially completed. This marks the city's first "Rainbow Tunnel" that operates without electricity, setting a new standard for eco-friendly road infrastructure and offering a sustainable solution for tunnel lighting. The innovative "Rainbow Tunnel" features a cutting-edge material that glows on its own without the need for electrical power. This special material is strategically placed on both the ceiling and walls of the tunnel, creating a visually striking and functional environment. The technology behind this self-illuminating material works through a cycle of LED electro-optic excitation, energy storage, and self-illumination. It can absorb natural light or artificial light from vehicles within just 5 to 15 minutes and then emit bright yellow, blue, and green hues for up to 12 hours without any additional energy input. In the Tianhuangping No. 1 Tunnel, an intelligent illumination induction sign has also been installed. Large color bars are used as visual warnings, while the signs on the tunnel walls help guide drivers safely through the passage. Beyond its energy-efficient design, this self-luminous technology serves as a crucial emergency backup. In case of power outages, fires, explosions, or structural collapses, the tunnel can provide continuous luminescence for up to 12 hours, helping trapped individuals locate escape routes and improving overall safety. This breakthrough not only reduces reliance on traditional power sources but also enhances road safety and environmental sustainability.
