Internet TV about "Voice Recognition" technology who actually measured more reliable

In the first half of 2017, internet brand TVs held conferences to unveil new products. This year, they all highlighted a common feature: voice recognition. If you have a longer-term view of internet brand TVs, you’ll notice that “voice” isn’t a new concept. However, when paired with the emphasis on “intelligence,” it has become a new breakthrough point. The development of voice recognition technology has never stopped. I remember that in Microsoft Office 2003, local voice recognition was already introduced. Back then, users had to "train" the system first, and the accuracy and speed were far from satisfactory. Then, Apple’s Siri helped popularize voice recognition on mobile devices. For TV products, there are three main aspects to consider: hardware foundation, speech recognition technology, and system optimization. First, the hardware must be capable of accurately capturing voice data, and the reliability of WiFi + Bluetooth transmission is crucial. Second, most current speech recognition systems are provided by companies like HKUST, Sogou, and others. In theory, if the same supplier is used, the recognition accuracy should be similar. Third, the TV system needs to be optimized so that voice recognition can support more applications. To test the differences in voice recognition, we selected three TV models, including Xiaomi TV 4A and Micro Whale for comparison. Let’s first look at the WiFi + BT hardware specifications of the four TVs: [Image: blob.png] From the table, we can see that Xiaomi TV 4A and Micro Whale TV are equipped with 802.11AC wireless network cards and support Bluetooth 4.1+. The mainstream Micro Whale TV model supports 802.11n and offers 2.4G + 5G transmission. The second mainstream Micro Whale TV only supports 2.4G. The chip models used include: - Whaley high-end: BCM43569 module - Whaley mainstream 1: BCM43242 module - Whaley mainstream 2: RTK8192 module - Xiaomi 4A: BCM43455 module While many netizens might think Xiaomi TV 4A has superior wireless specs, upon closer inspection, it uses a single-transmit-single-receive (1T1R) antenna design. The other three models use dual-transmit-dual-receive (2T2R), which allows for better signal stability and performance. What’s the impact of using a single-receive setup? Imagine driving on a busy highway—without proper signal management, data congestion is inevitable. Even with a high-end chip, Xiaomi TV 4A struggles with coexistence between WiFi and Bluetooth. Meanwhile, Micro Whale's dual-receive design ensures smoother transmission, even with limited bandwidth. To validate these assumptions, we placed all four TVs in a shielded room and conducted real-world tests. We tested both basic rate performance and user scenarios, simulating home environments to assess real-world usability. The test included two parts: 1. Shielded room environment: To compare baseline performance and simulate distance testing. 2. Real-world scenario: Testing user competition and coexistence situations in an office setting. Results showed that Xiaomi TV 4A performed poorly in the shielded room, especially in 2.4G environments. While it outperformed some Micro Whale models in 5G, it still lagged behind in range and stability. In real-life scenarios, Xiaomi TV 4A was less competitive than Micro Whale in close-range (1m and 3m), but improved at 5m. However, at 10m, it dropped significantly, showing a 30% gap compared to Micro Whale. Bluetooth coexistence tests also revealed that Xiaomi TV 4A struggled more than Micro Whale in all scenarios, with greater performance degradation. Finally, we tested voice recognition performance at different distances (3m, 5m, 7m). Xiaomi 4A showed a noticeable 20% gap compared to Micro Whale models. Wireless technology is becoming increasingly important, and as more products rely on wireless connectivity, the need for reliable and stable hardware becomes critical. While Xiaomi TV 4A offers a clean design, its wireless performance falls short compared to Micro Whale. True voice service requires comprehensive optimization—from hardware to software.
