PI launches a new generation of intelligent lighting "library" - LYTSwitch-6

Recently, Power Integrations (PI) launched a new IC product designed for intelligent lighting applications, specifically tailored for commercial and industrial lighting environments—LYTSwitch-6.

LYTSwitch-6 is aimed at the growing smart lighting market, supporting next-generation smart home and commercial lighting systems. It can be used in applications up to 65W, such as spotlights and ceiling lights, as well as other offline LED lighting solutions.

At present, the concept of smart lighting is often compared to "the red fried chicken"—a metaphor that suggests it's a hot topic with many players entering the field, pushing the development of smart lighting forward rapidly.

According to data from the High-tech Research Institute's LED Research Institute (GGII), China's smart lighting output reached 14.7 billion yuan in 2016, showing an impressive increase of 102.8% compared to 2015. The industry is expected to grow further, with projections reaching 28.4 billion yuan in 2017, a 93.2% increase. By 2020, GGII predicts that the output value will soar to 103.5 billion yuan.

LYTSwitch-6 features low standby power consumption and provides high-efficiency power supply to wireless control modules in standby mode. It can drive various types of loads, offering either constant voltage or constant current output. Additionally, it maintains stable output voltage under dynamic load conditions. Notably, its secondary-side control makes it easier to implement both PWM and analog dimming, enhancing the level of intelligence in lighting systems.

Jin Jinguang, Senior Technical Training Manager at PI, told Gaogong LED that PI continues to lead in the development of high-efficiency AC-DC power ICs that drive innovation in LED lighting. LYTSwitch-6 is one of PI’s flagship products in this area.

Jin explained that LYTSwitch-6 offers ±3% accuracy in constant voltage and current, ensuring stable LED output. Its no-load power consumption is less than 15 mW (excluding the pre-stage PF correction circuit), which helps achieve real energy savings. He also noted that the IC supports both analog and PWM dimming, making it highly versatile for different lighting scenarios.

Thanks to its strong adaptability, LYTSwitch-6 can be used across various applications, from single-lamp constant current setups to multi-lamp constant voltage outputs. It supports RGB color changes, reducing design and development costs for manufacturers. Additionally, its ultra-low standby power consumption meets North American standards like DOE-6 and ENERGY STAR, helping manufacturers enter the U.S. market more easily.

Currently, PI has introduced the LYTSwitch-6 in the InSOP-24C package, offering flexibility for different designs.
