On October 28, 2017, the first VR Developer Forum for Fujian Venture VR was held at the Haixi (Donglong) Animation and Creative Capital in Fuzhou, Fujian Province. The event brought together key figures from the Fujian Provincial Party Committee of the Development and Reform Commission, as well as representatives from VR companies and developers across Fuzhou, Xiamen, and Taiwan. The forum aimed to promote deeper integration of VR resources between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait. Ikea Youth played a key role by offering a platform for presentations and communication.
The forum was organized by the Fujian Provincial Development and Reform Commission and sponsored by NetDragon.com. It gathered top companies and talents from both sides of the strait, providing a valuable space for sharing experiences and building a communication and learning platform for VR developers. The event emphasized collaboration, innovation, and the potential of the VR industry in the region.
During the forum, Xie Jingyi, Secretary-General of the Taiwan Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Industry Association (TAVAR), delivered an insightful speech on the current trends in the VR industry in Taiwan. TAVAR is the first VR/AR industry association in the region, dedicated to promoting VR/AR technology and fostering a community for talent exchange. Their participation not only enriched the 2017 VR Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition but also provided participants with more opportunities to connect with top developers and access product promotion channels and industrial research resources.
One of the highlights of the competition was a grand prize of up to 5 million yuan, making it the highest-paying VR event in history. The prize pool was divided into four categories: DreamWorks (3.1 million yuan), Visual Effect Revolution (1 million yuan), Imagine the Future 101 Creative World (500,000 yuan), and Contest Promotion Prize (400,000 yuan). Winners also had the opportunity to join the public service platform of the Fujian VR Industrial Base, which offers support for SMEs and individual developers through a comprehensive "VR hardware + content + industry application + fund + incubation" system.
The 2017 VR Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition attracted thousands of teams from across China, including notable names like Aichuang Technology from Taiwan, Beijing Magic Vision, Shanghai Tianshe, Ningbo Innolux, and universities such as China University of Petroleum and Yunnan Normal University. The competition was open to all, regardless of experience level, thanks to the user-friendly VR creation tool "101 Imagine the World," developed by NetDragon. This tool features over 40 categories and 40,000 materials, enabling even beginners to create stunning VR scenes quickly.
