NBA and Oculus Corporation will release VR documentary!

"Follow My Lead: The 2016 NBA Finals Story" is a VR movie that the NBA and Oculus have collaborated on. It is almost the same length as a 25-minute TV series.

This VR movie is a mini documentary that needs to be worn by the Gear VR. It records the showdown between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors and was narrated by the actor Michael B. Jordan. Now that the NBA has fully accepted 360 videos, Xiao Bian has repeatedly reported on the use of this new technology by the NBA, but this is the first time that sports has used the technology to create a complete movie.

"We hope people will not continue to say that you can only use VR to do this content or that content." Eugene Wei, video director of Oculus, said: "There are too many things VR video can do, than people think. That's more, but what you need to do is to show these possibilities."

The film production technology used in "Follow My Lead" is different from the ordinary VR content. The film features a fast-cut or rolling car lens. However, this effect unfortunately brought some sutures that were clearly visible in the video.

"At this stage there are too many rules to follow, and what to do and what not to do because you are still guiding the audience to understand this new media." Ari Kuschnir, founder of Missing Pieces, said: "But we think that's it. At the moment, these moments of life, no matter how many imperfections are there, are more powerful than the story itself."

Although this is a good idea, VR movies are limited in terms of the prior art, and are even more pronounced in places where the low pixels are relatively low. However, since the main media and channels of these contents are similar to those of Facebook 360 videos, these are not regarded as major problems. However, as the technology advances, Xiao Bian believes that these problems will gradually disappear.

"Follow My Lead" is currently available for free download in the Gear VR store, provided of course that you can tolerate 25 minutes of VR movies and not feel sick.
