Lin Mingde: Technology madness to make the world shocked (figure)

On December 12, China Meqi Holding Group Harmony Optoelectronics Technology (Quanzhou) Industrial Base was officially laid. This project with a total investment of 570 million US dollars is the first large-scale optoelectronic industrial base built by Machi on the mainland. As the most prominent representative of Quanzhou's development of emerging industries, Harmony Optoelectronics will bring to Quanzhou, not just a high-tech project for semiconductor lighting. In the future, it will form a world-class photovoltaic industry cluster with a total output value of more than 50 billion yuan. In the words of Lin Mingde, chairman of Harmony Optoelectronics, "Our product is coming out, it is to make the world shock!"

The R&D center has developed test products

Although the project has just completed the groundbreaking ceremony, in the recent period, there have been many domestic counterparts coming to observe and explore the space for cooperation. And the test products of Harmony Optoelectronics are even more impressive to these colleagues. Lin Mingde said that this is the harmonious photoelectric project has not yet been launched, but the R & D center has already established the effect.

Prior to joining Harmony Optoelectronics, Lin Mingde was the general manager of Guanglei Technology, a Taiwan-listed company. This is a leading company in the field of optoelectronic semiconductor components in the world. As one of the founders, Lin Mingde has been exploring the optoelectronic world for more than 30 years. The R&D team he leads is a leader in Taiwan and even the world. Three years ago, Lin Mingde retired from the position of general manager of Guanglei Technology, focusing on the research and development of semiconductor lighting technology.

In May of this year, after being invited by Miki, Lin Mingde brought a five-person R&D team from Taiwan to take charge of the preparatory work and research and development of Harmony Optoelectronics. Lin Mingde said that the current research and development center in Quanzhou has begun to play a role. Like the harmonious exhibition hall, the already-acclaimed test products were first designed and developed by this R&D team, and then produced by the factories in Xiamen and Fuzhou. From the upstream epitaxial wafer and chip design to the downstream packaging and application, the difficulty of R&D technology in the semiconductor lighting industry is declining step by layer, and the higher the upstream technology content.

"At present, what we are doing in Quanzhou is to compare the downstream packaging and application side research and development. Like epitaxial wafers, chip design, etc., these technical difficulties are relatively high, and currently rely mainly on Taiwan's research and development strength." Lin Mingde said, don't look to bring Quanzhou has only a team of 5 people. In fact, behind him, there is a strong R&D team in Taiwan, and a good interaction can be formed between the two places. In Lin Mingde's vision, bringing a higher-level R&D team to Quanzhou is only a matter of time. "With the gradual formation and improvement of the industrial chain, the upstream research and development forces will naturally form."

The downstream industry is now available.

In fact, since the end of last year, Harmony Optoelectronics has appeared frequently in the eyes of Quanzhou people. In November last year, China Machi Group entered the Quanzhou with the international procurement and regional logistics center of the Straits West Bank, Crystal Blue Light and Harmony Optoelectronics. The total investment of the three projects reached 2.32 billion US dollars, even exceeding the total investment of Taiwanese businessmen in Quanzhou since 1983. The Quanzhou industry has focused on it.

In the past 20 years of development, the role of the US flag group is to form an investment alliance with Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Chinese companies at home and abroad, and to invest in the mainland with strong capital, technology and talents. Harmony Optoelectronics is led by Meiqi and is jointly built by Hong Kong Renhe Group, Fuhua Financial Holdings Co., Ltd. and well-known enterprises in Taiwan and the United States. The total investment of the project is 570 million US dollars. After the whole project is completed and put into production, LED semiconductor lighting products will be formed. The vertical industrial chain from epitaxial wafer, chip, package to application is expected to be put into operation in August next year. "After completion, only the output value of Harmony Optoelectronics will reach 10 billion yuan, driving the relevant supporting industrial chain, which will form a photovoltaic industry cluster of more than 50 billion." Lin Mingde said.

Semiconductor lighting is a lighting revolution in the 21st century. The advantages of energy saving and cold light of LED lighting products will make positive contributions to energy conservation and environmental protection in the world. But semiconductor lighting is still a blank in Quanzhou. "Even if we put into production next year, high-end products like chips, we still have to come in from the outside. Now we can start to match the downstream packaging, application, etc." In Lin Mingde’s view, the semiconductor lighting industry chain must Quanzhou was initially formed, at least two or three years.

Quanzhou is also a production technology transformation base

Of course, the reason why Lin Mingde dared to say that Harmony Optoelectronics products came out, it is necessary to let the industry and even the world shock, relying on a batch of technical resources that have been accumulated before. Recently, a seminar on the cross-strait optoelectronic industry alliance was held. Lin Mingde’s several technologies, such as high thermal conductivity, high heat dissipation and color temperature, have been well received by the industry. “In fact, we still have a lot of high Cutting-edge technology has not yet been released. ”

Lin Mingde believes that many of the patents in the LED lighting industry have been monopolized by large foreign companies. If you do not have your own innovative technology, you must be looked down upon with those upstream manufacturers. "So, our ability is not enough, there is still a lot of room for development."

It is understood that Harmony Optoelectronics has just set up another R&D center in Shanghai, which will complement the R&D centers in Quanzhou and Taiwan in the future. “The purpose is obvious, mainly relying on the talents, universities and scientific research advantages of this big city in Shanghai.” Lin Mingde Say.

Of course, even if he has mastered the most advanced technology, Lin Mingde believes that it is not enough. "You will develop and not make it useless." Lin Mingde not only positions Quanzhou as a research and development base for the optoelectronic industry, but also positions it as production. Technical transformation base. “The optoelectronics industry is still an emerging industry in the mainland, and many processes need automation. Quanzhou’s R&D center now has a major task to study automation equipment.”

Do industry guidance and service

In the planning concept of Harmony Optoelectronics, it is not just to position itself as a manufacturer. Lin Mingde said that in the development of Quanzhou's optoelectronic industry, the identity of Harmony Optoelectronics is a guide and server.

In the future Harmony Optoelectronics Industrial Park, a complete industrial chain will be formed from epitaxial wafers, chip design and development, to packaging, to application, to market access. However, not every link is done by harmony itself. "Our main focus is on front-end R&D and market access. In other production links in the industry chain, we mainly provide technology and design solutions and hand it over to supporting companies." Lin Mingde believes that the optoelectronic industry should do it quickly. To be stronger and stronger, relying on it is not the strength of a company, but a large number of enterprises to build together. "Now, Harmony Optoelectronics is coming, it is to tell everyone that it can be done here. As long as we master the high-tech technology and make something, it will naturally attract others to come."

As a pioneer, Harmony Optoelectronics and the Machi Group behind it are also more advantageous in terms of channels and levels of communication with the government. "In the future, there will be other supporting projects to come in, we can help to do something to communicate and connect with the government."

Lin Mingde also told reporters that as the first photovoltaic industry base built by the US flag on the mainland, Harmony Optoelectronics also has the mission of “pilot”. Once the Quanzhou Optoelectronic Industry Cluster, which is led by harmony, is formed in the future, the model of Harmony Photovoltaic Base can be successful, and Machi will also replicate this industrial base model in other parts of the country.

Character impression

Focus on technology

With a fluent Mandarin, a plain dress, if it is not a few words of English that are occasionally mixed in the language, it is difficult to connect Lin Mingde's identity with Taiwanese businessmen. It is his politeness and courtesy, which is more consistent with the Taiwanese.

Born in 1949, Lin Mingde, a native of Zhangzhou. In fact, whether it is from his appearance or words, he can strongly feel that he is a technical elite. I have been in Quanzhou for half a year. Lin Mingde said that he was even confused at once. How can Quanzhou have a rare place to have a foot bath? How far is it compared with Shenzhen and Dongguan? Later, I learned that it is not Quanzhou that does not have these leisure places. But my work is too busy, almost three-point life in the office, construction site, dormitory, where there is leisure to go. Lin Mingde’s focus on his work is also evident.

Since the beginning of the optoelectronic industry more than 30 years ago, Lin Mingde has always preferred the field of technology research and development. Three years ago, the reason for the retreat from the position of general manager of Guanglei Technology, the world's largest LED die supplier, Lin Mingde said, is to put more energy into research and development. When his team began to study semiconductor lighting, the industry was just getting started. From Taiwan to Quanzhou, in Lin Mingde's view, in addition to looking at the business opportunities in the mainland, looking for new entrepreneurial models and business ideas is also the main reason.

dialogue

"Golden Triangle? Boss": You should have traveled through many places in the mainland. How do you feel about Quanzhou compared to other cities?

Lin Mingde: From the perspective of investment environment, the model and ideas of the Quanzhou government are quite good. However, the hardware facilities in Quanzhou need to be strengthened. Some industrial parks like the Pearl River Delta and the Yangtze River Delta, roads, municipalities, etc. are all very good, but Quanzhou is a little worse.

If it is from the living environment, Quanzhou's language environment, climate, customs, etc., are very similar to Taiwan. For Taiwanese businessmen, living and working in Quanzhou is certainly easier and more relaxed than other cities.

"Golden Triangle? Boss": The optoelectronic industry is the industry that Quanzhou is currently focusing on. What do you think of the industrial base? Quanzhou now has several optoelectronic industrial bases such as Nan'an Daxiamei, Hui'an Green Valley and Yucheng Jiangnan, and the future of Harmony Optoelectronics Is there room for cooperation?

Lin Mingde: It should be said that the foundation of Quanzhou is still very weak. For example, in Shenzhen, many of our complementary products can be delivered the same day. In Quanzhou, the supporting industry has just started. This is also the need to cultivate time, I think, at least two or three years. Of course, the most important thing is that the government is determined to do this industry. With this determination and guidance, there are many opportunities for companies to come in to achieve a win-win situation.

As for the other optoelectronic bases in Quanzhou, I think they all have their own characteristics. Like Nan'an, the upstream silicon purification is the biggest bright spot. What we are mainly doing is LED semiconductor lighting products, which is an industry closely related to photovoltaic power generation. Therefore, there must be room for cooperation in the future.

"Golden Triangle? Boss": Quanzhou has proposed to create "the third largest Taiwanese investment concentration area in the mainland", what advice do you have for attracting Taiwanese businessmen?

Lin Mingde: I think Quanzhou wants to build the "third mainland China". To attract Taiwan-funded Taiwanese businessmen, it should be all-round. High technology is not just a photovoltaic industry. Any industry has its own high-tech, such as textiles, shoes and clothing, and even agriculture, all of which have their own high-tech fields. In these Quanzhou as traditional industries, Taiwan has also accumulated a lot of high technology. Quanzhou attracts Taiwanese businessmen. It should not only stay in the optoelectronic information industry, but also focus on those traditional industries. It can also promote the industrial upgrading of Quanzhou.
