Where is the VR explosion game we are waiting for?

Oculus Rift and HTC Vive have been officially launching consumer products for nine months. It is undeniable that we have some immersive experiences. We are ready to turn VR from a stunning novelty technology into a must-have device, and for those who are not yet ready, it is a game that is unstoppable. So, where is the VR killer application?

Of course, the explosion of the game requires a lot of money, in order to recover the development costs, a large amount of software sales. However, how to increase software sales on the basis of not many users? If there is no explosive game that needs to sell hardware, how to increase users? This is a fundamental problem that may hinder the adoption of VR hardware. Developers are waiting for hardware sales to rise before submitting large budgets. Without these 3A masterpieces, hardware sales will not grow. This is a question everyone knows, right? I have a few friends who feel good after demonstrating my Vive and Rift, but they always ask me where I am. The game they want, like the Old Scrolls 5: Skyrim, or Half Life 2 VR, unfortunately no game meets these criteria. They don't mind waiting for masterpieces because they feel that VR still doesn't provide the core experience they are looking for. Lack of content is becoming a problem.

Of course, VR has some powerful games like The Gallery, Damaged Core, Arizona Sunshine, The Unspoken, etc., but no one has become the headline news of major websites like the 3A masterpiece. Home machine manufacturers such as Sony, Microsoft, and especially Nintendo have established an IP empire that they can rely on to launch a new system. They can spend millions of knowledge on early 3A game development, they must first sell hardware or people will move to a different console. Third parties typically relax to have the same game console transitions that appear on current and next generation hosts and therefore offset all risks. Someone must take this risk and invest millions of dollars to develop killer applications, which will bring VR to a new level of innovation and performance. For now, the author thinks that Valve is a company that can and should be done, I believe they are dealing with some great content, but we can't wait forever.

VR sales are still good, but below the market's original expectations. The long-term success of VR will depend on what people want. Valve has billions of net assets and they have been pioneers of VR. They jointly created the HTC Vive, built indoor tracking technology, motion controllers and more. They use the Steam platform to reach millions of players and drive VR sales, especially Vive. Now is the time to bring us the game we developed for Valve.

Many people have come into contact with the VR experience, starting with The Lab. It was created by Valve and is still one of the best experiences in VR. From playing with a cute robotic dog, control a tiny spacecraft by hand while avoiding obstacles and defending the enemy with bows and arrows. I assume that Valve can inspire independent developers to create the next generation of VR content. Although we have some excellent experiences, many games end up with more technical demonstrations. This is the wild west of VR game development. It's fun to see what these great independent developers have new ideas, but I think it's time to get into the main dish from the appetizer.

If 2016 is the first year of VR, then we hope that 2017 will be the first year of VR games.
