1. How to play

If you have ever played "The Werewolf," you will not be unfamiliar with this game. The gameplay is mainly to find hidden werewolf through language description and analytical reasoning. When starting a game match, the system will automatically arrange one of 11 different roles. Of course, different roles have different abilities. You may become a villager (one of the game professions), trying to determine who is the enemy of a lie, or a blackmailed werewolf (one of the game professions), and killing all the good villagers.

It doesn't matter if you are not familiar with "The Werewolf." The game provides a convenient reference guide, so novices will soon understand specific gameplay and characters. This guide can also help you discover your unique ability to remove suspicious werewolves.

Basically everyone is a newcomer to Werewolves Within, and the few rounds of play I have played are full and relaxed. But I can imagine smart players once they have mastered the rules of the game, they will soon dominate the game.

I became a werewolf after playing several rounds of games, and I was surprised to see that another werewolf was sitting opposite me. We communicated by eyes and began to "collaborate" together. We think that the British PSVR players sitting beside me are the vagrants (one of the professional games).

Like most players, he tilts left or right to start Whisper Mode and secretly talk to others. Finally, I stood up, started the "Speech Mode" that would allow other players to ban, and then briefly accused him of plotting to persecute our group of "peace-loving" "villagers."

Of course, after the voting session was over, we mistakenly accused the tramps. Me and my werewolf companions were forced to reveal their true identity. Of course, we failed, so I left the room and joined another round of games.

This game supports cross-platform multiplayer experiences including PSVR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Although the purpose of the game is to "cheat," it wouldn't really surprise me if you become a true friend with other players in a random quick race.

2. Immersion

It's important to set the right atmosphere for the game. This is especially true for games like Werewolves Within that are basically stationary. Fortunately, the background of the game is very good, and sitting in the dark wilderness really makes the game more real. Unfortunately, you cannot walk around exploring Gypsy camps or the various bars, shops and churches in the small village.

The game is located in a fictional town of Gallowston, a cartoon-style Central European village full of wood-framed houses that look like the classic monster movie "Frankenstein" (1931) or "Wolfman" (1941). The player will automatically assign a random avatar and everyone will sit next to the campfire. You will see fortune-tellers from Rome, pilots in turbans, rough merchants, elaborate hunters, and a variety of villagers. This is the aesthetic of game developers, and there are some conflicts with my personal ideas.

First of all, you cannot choose your own avatar. This is not the worst thing in the game. PSVR Move, Vive controller or the recently listed Oculus Touch, no matter which motion controller you use, you can only use the same button to type emoticons, that is, "holding A will clapping." This is the part that I have so far disliked most. I would rather see imperfect movements like those in other games, rather than turning a hand controller with position tracking into a normal gamepad. For this reason, I ended up not using these emoticons, and I often forget about their existence. I just shake my own motion controller meaninglessly. In the next play, I probably only use the gamepad.

3. Comfort

As a 100% static experience, you either sit in the audience or stand up briefly to activate the “voice mode”. So the game does not involve movement mechanisms, which also makes "Werewolves Within" become one of the most comfortable VR games, but also very suitable for newcomers (such as curious mom and dad).

Although this doesn't have much to do with comfort, walking around your location can be a bit unnerving, because your head will stretch away from the still sitting body. So it is best for players to stay in the relative position of the real world.
