Smart home chips from mainstream semiconductor manufacturers under the wave of the Internet of Things

The rapid development of the Internet of Things industry has driven the simultaneous development of smart homes, and has also driven many industrial opportunities related to home chip semiconductors. Especially with the continuous development of technology, under the wave of “Internet +”, smart homes, smart cities, smart wearers, smart watches, and other products related to life, work, and home are rapidly developing.

Of course, the number of companies developing products based on smart home demand has increased. Let's take a look at the current mainstream semiconductor manufacturers' products in smart home chips.

Smart home chips from mainstream semiconductor manufacturers under the wave of the Internet of Things

I. STMicroelectronics

STMicroelectronics unveiled the HomePlug intelligent system to drive innovation in smart home technology. The ST2100 STReamPlug integrates high-performance processing subsystems, power line communication and data security functions, and peripheral interfaces to support the currently used fixed-line and wireless hybrid networks. The ST2100 supports the IEEE 1905.1 standard, which integrates other network standards such as Ethernet and Wi-Fi into a new gateway or hub design to take full advantage of it.

At the same time, STMicroelectronics is also closely integrated with the set-top box chip smart home software platform, which promotes the development of set-top boxes into smart home set-top boxes, a new class of equipment capable of managing household energy, home automation systems and home security surveillance systems for home users A set of connections through home appliances and digital multimedia content.

Second, Silicon Labs

Silicon Labs' low-power wireless microcontroller for the smart home market, the Si10xx wireless MCU features a 25MHz 8051 core, EZRadioPRO sub-GHz RF transceiver, up to 64kB of Flash and up to 12-bit ADC, all integrated in 5mm & TImes; 7mm size package. The wireless MCU has the lowest current consumption (160μA/MHz) in the operating mode. In sleep mode, when operating with a real-time clock (RTC) with an external 32.768kHz crystal as the clock source, the current consumption is 615nA; when operating with the internal low-frequency oscillator (LFO) as the clock source, the current consumption is reduced to 315nA. In deep sleep mode, only 25nA of operating current is required and RAM data is not lost.

Third, Marvell

Marvell introduces a full range of home automation products, and Marvell's Wi-Fi microcontroller IoT platform is a cost-effective, flexible and easy-to-use low-power hardware/software solution that supports next-generation IoT devices and mobile clients. Cloud services and other consumer electronics devices interact seamlessly. The platform uses Marvell's 88MC200 Cortex-M3 microcontroller and 802.11n Avastar Wi-Fi SoC, and uses Marvell's Easy-Connect software development kit to meet all communication needs of IoT products.

Marvell's G.hn chipset powers Blu-Castle to create a connected home. Blu-Castle's Tower-MVG01f with G.hn technology integrates Marvell's G.hn module, which includes the Marvell 88LX3142 G.hn digital baseband (the baseband). The processor and the Marvell 88LX2718 G.hn analog front end.

Marvell teamed up with Skyworth to launch smart TVs and set-top boxes with Google services. Skyworth has teamed up with smart TV and set-top boxes powered by Google services to further strengthen Marvell's leadership in the smart home ecosystem. The product uses Marvell's ARMADA 1500 Plus (88DE3108) SoC platform, a full HD media processor designed for a wide range of intelligent video products.

Marvell introduces the new ZigBee/RF4CE remote control platform based on the ZigBee/RF4CE standard, which offers a variety of remote experiences, including voice search and gesture recognition, as well as Internet-based multimedia search and browsing capabilities, and supports the latest cloud games. Wait. Marvell's ZigBee remote control platform features a highly integrated 88MZ100 ZigBee/RF4CE system chip for smart homes that supports both ZigBee/RF4CE and Bluetooth connectivity standards, both of which are favored by set-top box manufacturers and TV manufacturers.

The Marvell 88EM8187 LED controller provides deep dimming performance. The controllers are phase-cut, deep dimming, single-stage AC/DC constant current controllers for dimmable LED lights and fixtures. Developed on the industry-leading 88EM8183, the driver IC family features a unique mixed-signal architecture with advanced digital algorithms. The 88EM8187 product line offers unparalleled performance and is fully compatible with more than 250 dimmers worldwide, with depth dimming as low as 1% without flicker. This product line extends lamp life due to its excellent temperature regulation and 90% power efficiency.

Marvell introduces the intelligent LED controller 88EM8189, which is compatible with existing wall dimmers. The driver IC uses an I2C-compatible digital interface and is connected to a network microcontroller supporting Zigbee's lighting control protocol. The dimming range is from 100% to 100%. 1% complete coverage for excellent dimming performance for smart wireless light bulbs. Marvell's 88EM8189 chip integrates a separate high-efficiency AC-to-DC power supply circuit to provide dedicated standby power to the network chip. As a result, bill of materials (BOM) costs for electronic devices are reduced, significantly reducing product prices.

Summary: Don't look at the concept of smart home so hot, the potential market in the future is also very big, but after really counting the relevant manufacturers' information, I found out that in fact, the manufacturers who are currently working on smart homes are actually not much. Of course, this It is not ruled out that many manufacturers have just cut into this line, or they may be in a wait-and-see stage. Coupled with the current high price of smart home systems in the market, they are generally installed only in mid- to high-end houses or villas, and the general household consumption capacity. Still low.

However, it is understood that it is said that Xiaomi wants to force the smart home market. From the current market performance, it only introduces boxes, routers and TVs. The smart home control system is still in the foreseeable future. Therefore, when will the smart home really enter the ordinary people's home, waiting for the test of time.
