In the past five years, the number of street lamps in Taiyuan has more than doubled, and through various energy-saving measures, the total electricity cost has been reduced by nearly 100 million yuan. At the end of 2005, there were 756 street lighting installations in the city. The number of street lamps was only 88,500. In 2010, the number of street lighting installations increased to 804, and the lighting facilities exceeded 200,000, including 92,000 functional lighting facilities. The landscape lighting facilities are 114,000. It is worth mentioning that most of the original street lamps belong to mercury lamps, which consume high energy and have poor lighting effects. Since 2007, the provincial capital has increased the progress of the renovation of street lamps. So far, 365 street lights have been replaced with low-energy sodium lamps, and 70 small streets have bid farewell to the history of streetless lights.
In 2005, the city's lighting facilities consumed relatively high energy, and energy-saving boxes have not yet been introduced, and energy is saved only by turning off lights in the middle of the night. In 2010, Taiyuan City installed 34 new energy-saving boxes in 11 streets including Gangyuan Road and Pingyang Road, which is more than 20% more energy-saving than traditional boxes. The number of control lamps is 6047ç›, and the total power is 2184.2 kW. The energy-saving effect is greatly enhanced. In 13 streets, including Dongzhou Street, Taoyuan Nanbei Road, and more than 1,500 LED street lights, 25,000 æ— multi-headless lamps were removed, and the power consumption was nearly 400,000 kW. At the same time, with the help of midnight lights, half-way lights, and interval-lighting, the midnight light management mode is implemented for some marginal areas and traffic filialians. Compared with 2005, the accumulated energy saving during the 11th Five-Year Plan period was 26%, saving nearly 100 million yuan in electricity bills.
