NHK engineer: 8K TV will become the limit

According to an AdvancedTelevision report, the demonstration of the Japanese public broadcaster NHK at the NAB exhibition has not been reported so far. It has formulated a plan for the deployment of the 8K SuperHiVision technology.


Masayuki Sugawara, an executive research engineer at NHK's Science and Technology Research Laboratory, explained that NHK will launch 8K/Ultra HD (7680x4320 pixel) transmission trials, which will be "ultimate TV."

According to Chris Chinnock of LargeDisplayMonitor, some listeners asked Sugawara whether there will be stronger and better technology after 8K. Sugawara responded that “No, 8K is the ultimate technology and there will be no technology beyond it.”

LargeDisplayMonitor added: “The Japanese government and NexTV-F have developed a 4K/8K ultra high definition television broadcasting roadmap, including 8K experimental broadcasting via satellite in 2016 and commercial broadcasting service in 2018. With the assistance of the ARIB and the Japan Telecom Commission, the standardization process for Ultra High Definition has been carried out in an orderly manner.”

The 8K transmission test will begin in 2016, including the Rio Olympic Games, the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and by the time of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the 8K live transmission will be fully launched.
