56% of Hong Kong residents do not use LED lamps

Social enterprises “refueling Hong Kong” conducted questionnaire surveys on the use of light bulbs from March to this month. During this period, they interviewed 331 citizens, most of whom were from grass-roots households. However, the results showed that LED bulbs were not widely used in grassroots households, and 56% of respondents did not use them.

As for the reasons behind this, it is mainly due to the lack of understanding of the product, followed by the installation problem and the high price of LED bulbs.

The advantages of LED bulbs are that they are energy-saving and environmentally friendly, and they are more energy-efficient than traditional tungsten bulbs and helium bulbs. A 7W LED bulb, the brightness can be compared to a 60W tungsten bulb, but the power consumption is greatly reduced.

If a family uses eight light bulbs and turns on the lights for five hours a day, the electricity cost for using tungsten bulbs will be 864 yuan (Hong Kong Dollars, the same for about 691 yuan) per year, and that for the electric bulbs will be 173 yuan (about 138 yuan). ), while the LED light bulbs only need 101 yuan (about 81 yuan), about one-tenth of the electricity price of tungsten bulbs.

At the same time, LED bulbs are also more durable, with a lifetime of up to 35,000 hours, which is equivalent to the life of 5 xenon bulbs or 25 tungsten bulbs.

Zhou Peibo, chief executive officer of the “Refueling Hong Kong” company, said at a press conference yesterday that LED bulbs save energy expenses and at the same time, they do not need frequent replacement because of their long lifespan, which can reduce the risk of home accidents caused by the replacement of bulbs by the elderly. He cited the results of interviews with more than 20 elders over the age of 70, pointing out that four of them had been injured or fell during the replacement of the bulb.

To this end, "Refueling Hong Kong" cooperated with the Obas Energy Lighting Company to carry out the "Lighting and Changing" campaign to launch a special LED bulb for the grassroots families. The lampshade of the lamp is made of aluminum wrapped in plastic, and it is not easy to disintegrate. The cooling effect is good, and it is not hot after power on.

Opus executive director Yang Jingxin also pointed out that the product does not contain mercury that is harmful to the human body and is safer than helium bubble. This type of lamp has two types of screw heads and screw heads, which can be used with ordinary lamp sockets.

As for the price issue that consumers are most concerned about, Zhou Peibo revealed that each light bulb sold for only 35 yuan (approximately RMB 27.99 yuan), which is half as cheap as similar products on the market. He also said that because "refueling Hong Kong" mainly sells necessities to the grass-roots households through open sales in various districts, the agency is currently seeking affiliation with various district council members and non-government organizations.
