Two new concepts of LED in commercial lighting applications

1 Introduction

From the invention of light-emitting diodes in 1907 to the successful development of blue-light LEDs in 1995, semiconductor lighting experienced a tortuous process. These include the battle for tantalum carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) in the development of blue LEDs. After the technical preparation of the LED development, the LED has entered a rapid growth period.

Due to the birth of white LEDs and the improvement of luminous efficiency, LEDs have entered the field of commercial lighting. At present, there are many manufacturers engaged in the development and production of LED technology in the world, and the scale is different. LED lighting has entered the stage of commercial application. Based on the development experience of Hong Kong Zhenmingli Group, the authors recommend two types of more promising LED commercial lighting products to readers. It is expected to provide LEDs with timely information on commercial lighting applications for the readers.

2 LED bulb

At present, household lighting is mainly incandescent, fluorescent and energy-saving fluorescent lamps. The article will compare high-power LED bulbs with current domestic lighting sources from multiple perspectives.

2.1 Health

2.1.1 Stability of light

If the light can only guarantee brightness but there is stroboscopic light and the light is not stable enough, such a luminaire is also not ideal. When the strobe exceeds a certain range, people will have visual fatigue, and long-term visual fatigue will cause damage to the human visual system. Reading or working in this lighting environment for a long time can damage the eyes and have symptoms such as eye swelling and headache. Today, with the increasing popularity of computers, many people use computers under the light. Usually, the strobes of the fluorescent ballasts of the magnetic ballasts and the frame of the fluorescent screen flicker (replaces the screen 50 to 100 times per second) to form a light resonance. The visual system is more harmful. Therefore, in 1997, the European Electrotechnical Commission banned the installation of fluorescent lamps using magnetic ballasts in offices with computer screens to protect the health of computer operators. However, there is no corresponding regulation in China at present, which has not yet attracted people's attention. However, with the increasing incidence of “urban lighting syndrome”, it is only a matter of time before the introduction of relevant regulations. One of the advantages of LEDs is that there is no stroboscopic.

2.1.2 Light quality

Because there is no ultraviolet light and infrared light in the LED spectrum, it does not produce harmful radiation, and will not have a negative impact on the human eye. It will not cause symptoms of eye irritation and swelling when reading or working for a long time.

2.1.3 color rendering

Compared with fluorescent lamps, high-power LED lamps have a high color rendering index, usually around 80. This is beneficial to alleviate the fatigue of the human eye and is very helpful in protecting eyesight.

According to the above analysis, the use of high-power LED bulbs is beneficial to people's health.

2.2 Economics

Illuminators made of white LEDs are energy efficient and have a long life. In order to illustrate the problem, the author made a comparison of the three types of lamps with the same luminous brightness in terms of power saving and economy. The three lamps are a 3W white LED bulb, a 5W energy-saving fluorescent lamp, and a 25W incandescent bulb. All three lamps are powered by 220V mains. In the calculation, 3W white LED bulbs are calculated according to 5W (2W is circuit loss), and 5W energy-saving fluorescent lamps are calculated at 7W (2W is ballast and circuit loss). The results of the calculation are shown in the table below.

Through analysis, we can know that although the price of LED is relatively expensive, this price difference only exists in the initial stage of investment. If considered from the entire life cycle, the cost of LED lights is lower than that of incandescent lamps and lower than energy-saving lamps.

The difference between the three is not only the cost, but also the energy savings and the reduction of environmental pollution. If there are 100 million 3W white LED lamps in the country to replace 25W incandescent bulbs, it can save 100 billion kWh of electricity during the 50000h use time, reduce coal consumption by about 36 million tons, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 100 million tons.

In addition, high-power LED lights also have the advantages of strong seismic resistance and environmental protection. Figure 1 is a high-power LED lamp developed by Hong Kong Zhen Mingli Group, which can be used as home lighting.

3 LED panel light

LEDs have been used as backlights for keypads, flat panel displays, and small form factor LCD monitors. However, the use of LEDs as backlights in lighting is a new direction. Hong Kong Zhen Mingli Group developed LED panel lights in 2006. This product has the following properties.

3.1 Health

In addition to the general advantages of LED lamps with no stroboscopic light and no harmful radiation, the LED panel light also has the outstanding advantages of uniform light and no glare.

The LED panel lamp adopts high transmittance acrylic as the light guiding material, and the light source structure adopts the side-emitting type, and is modulated by the optical design of the upper and lower sides of the light guiding panel to form a surface light source.

Since the LED light source of the LED panel light is placed on the side of the panel light, it is prevented from appearing directly in the field of view of the human eye, and the glare problem caused by the excessive brightness of the LED is fundamentally solved.

In addition, since many LED light sources are modulated into planar light sources, the light of the LED panel lights is more uniform and softer than that of a common fluorescent light source such as a fluorescent lamp or an incandescent lamp.

It can be seen that the LED panel light is a healthy lighting fixture.

3.2 Aesthetics

The thickness of the LED panel light developed by Hong Kong Zhenmingli Group is less than 30mm, which is easy to install and beautiful in appearance. It can be used as an ornament itself. Therefore, the LED panel light is a functional and decorative lighting fixture.

3.3 Other advantages

LED panel lights also have the advantages of energy saving, convenient installation and maintenance, and stable and reliable quality. This can save a lot of electricity and installation and maintenance costs.

It can be seen from the above analysis that the LED panel light is a green, environmentally friendly new lighting fixture. Can be widely used in lighting and advertising decoration. It can be promoted in homes, commercial centers, supermarkets, banks, chain stores, hotels, airports, bus stations, railway stations, bus stations, tunnels, subway stations, trains, elevators, exhibitions and other places.

4 Conclusion

Both LED bulbs and LED panel lights have the advantages of health, energy saving and environmental protection. Today, as the energy situation becomes increasingly severe and the problems of living and production environment become more and more prominent, energy conservation, health and environmental protection should be the common pursuit of designers, producers and users.
